Reasons Not To Buy The Verizon iPhone

Why You Should Wait To Buy The Verizon iPhone

As a Verizon user myself, I was ecstatic when I heard that Verizon would be getting the iPhone on their network. I was already to shell out the full price for an iPhone when I finally came to my senses and starting thinking the offer over. It then occurred to me that there were reasons not to buy the Verizon iPhone when it came out.

Don't get me wrong, I do plan on buying one eventually, I just don't plan on shooting myself in the foot by rushing out to stand in line to buy an inferior product and service. If I wanted that, I would have bought an AT&T iPhone and service plan! LOL

iPhone Verizon

I know this article could be Titled "Verizon iPhone vs AT&T iPhone", but that isn't the case. The only reason I'll be mentioning the AT&T iPhone is because that's all the carriers we have to compare to. I always thought that Apple should have sent the iphone to Verizon in the first place, seeing how their level of service was far better than AT&T's. (per national survey's)

Finally, just before Christmas, we heard rumors that there would be an iPhone for Verizon in the New Year. Verizon (and many AT&T iPhone users) jumped for joy! Like I said above, it's always seem that iPhone and Verizon go together. So soon you'll see many people with Verizon and iPhone, but here are several reasons not to buy the Verizon iPhone just yet.

Reason #1 Not To Buy A Verizon iPhone

Because it's on Verizon's 3G network. Okay, that should be reason enough. Why in the world would I intentionally buy an iPhone, one of the most technologically advanced phones in the World, then put it on a slow network? The only reason I can think of why Verizon would do this is because they were worried about the rush of iPhone users crashing their 4G network. Makes you wonder how big and bad their 4G network is doesn't it?

I've also read that the 3G iPhone can not handle Verizon's 4g network. It could be one or the other, or both, but they're both valid reasons to wait to buy the Verizon iPhone. Not only that, but judging from the camparison's I've seen, Verizon's 3G network is around 30 to 40 percent slower than AT&T's 3g network. AT&T may have a reputation for dropped phone calls and spotty data coverage, but they do have a raving fast 3g network that Verizon doesn't have! Again, why in the world would you pay top dollar for poorer performance? It will take Verizons spanking new 4G LTE network to rectify this reason for not buying a Verizon iPhone.

Reason #2: Can't Talk and Surf At Once

Okay, another of the "WTF?" moments from Verizon iPhone. My friends that have AT&T iPhones can surf the web while they talk. (if you know my friends, you'd know that's a major accomplishment!) But if I wanted to do that on the Verizon network with my new iPhone, I wouldn't be able to do that. This goes back to AT&T iPhones being a GSM network vs being on Verizons CDMA network. But if the iPhone Verizon was on their 4g LTE network, that wouldn't be a problem. Hint, hint Verizon! Just sayin', save your money and wait for the good stuff from the Verizon iPhone.

Reason #3: You Might Not Hear Me In Some Parts of the World

Okay, once again, the differences between the AT&T network and the Verizon network get shoved into the light. Since we already know that AT&T uses a GSM network and that Verizon uses a CDMA network, it will be easier to try and explain this. CDMA is popular in the North America and Asia. Not so in other parts of the world. In fact, I think I read once that there were only something like 40 countries where it was popular. That's in contrast to GSM networks which are popular in over 200 countries, including most of Europe. Sure, Verizon does offer a few phones that are compatible with both the GSM and CDMA networks, but only a few. (once again, you have to ask yourself why they didn't make the iphone for Verizon a "world phone" instead of being married to the CDMA network?

"Can you hear me now", well, if you're using an iPhone from Verizon in some parts of the World, the answer will be "NO"!

Reason #4: Can Verizon Handle the Rush of AT&T Users?

I'd say most people don't know about the limitations the new iPhone for Verizon will have. All the know is that they are tired of the dropped calls on the AT&T network and the spotty data coverage. Sure, when they are connected their 3G network is blazing fast compared to Verizon's, but to most people, they want their phone calls to last from beginning to end. They also want to play their Angry Birds anywhere they go! I think both Verizon and iPhone were counting on this when they decided to come out with the new Verizon iPhone. To hell with waiting a few months and build the new iPhone to work on the Verizon 4G LTE network, we're going to make an extra few millions off of the schmucks who buy early!

I don't know if the Verizon 3G network will be overwhelmed by all the new iPhone users. I am willing to bet that it will be strained. And who knows, Verizon may become just like AT&T and get the reputation of being the network with a lot of dropped calls and being unable to download data. These four reasons are just why I'll wait and see what happens. My money doesn't come easy and I can live a few more months with my old phone. Who knows, by then I might have decided to go with a Android phone! LOL

I just know these are reasons to not buy the Verizon iPhone right now. Your mileage may vary!

Great hub, But i must disagree.

Hopefully, with the new iphone 5 (4G most likely) we will see Verizon kicking the bejesus out of AT&T dropped calls. That would be awesome. The verizon 4g network is pretty nice, especially since they have a larer coverage spectrum. We have to wait and see.
