When you get serious about losing weight, one thing you'll learn is that muscles burn more calories than fat. Yes, muscles weight more than fat also, but what would you rather have, 200 lbs of fat or 200lbs of muscle? I thought as much! So if you're serious about losing weight, you'll need to build good solid muscle. Toning helps, but it isn't everything. The set I looked at was not near the quality of the York or Troy set above. It had casting imperfections in the plates. If the look of the plate is going to be a problem, then this set is probably not for you. On the other hand, if you just want a cheap weight set, then his is much better than what you can find in most retail stores.

One thing about my Sister's set that caught my eye was that the plates have just enough of a single sided lip on them for handling. This may be a problem for you if you're used to plates with hand holds, double lips, or both.
